NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Louis junior Jordan Goodwin Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. George Washington freshman Jamison Battle was selected as A-10 Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 6-12.
Goodwin led the Billikens with 23 points per game last week as SLU posted a pair of victories, including a road win at Richmond. The guard from Centreville, Ill., shot 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the field in two games and also collected 8.5 rebounds per game. He scored a season-high 26 points on 10-of-19 (.526) shooting at Richmond while also securing a team-leading nine rebounds. He began the week with 20 points on 7-of-10 (.700) shooting from the field and eight rebounds versus George Washington.
Battle finished the week with a pair of double-doubles and a perfect (9-for-9) appearance at the line in leading the Colonials in two games last week. Battle, a guard from Robinsdale, Minn., had 18 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field (4-8) and from the outside (3-6) at Saint Louis. He also made all seven free throws against the Billikens. Battle tied his career high with 20 points and 10 rebounds on 6-of-15 (.400) shooting, all of which came from 3-point range.
