Dayton Defense Propels Flyers Into #A10WBB Quarterfinals

DAYTON, Ohio – Fourth-seeded Dayton women’s basketball played tight defense to limit scoring opportunities and defeat No. 13 La Salle 65-38 in the first round of 2019 Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship at University of Dayton Arena.

The Flyers advance to the quarterfinals to face fifth-seeded Davidson Friday at 2:00 pm ET at Duquesne University’s A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh.

The Dayton defense held La Salle to 27.7 percent shooting from the field and 14.3 percent from 3-point range. Dayton held La Salle under 10 points in the first and second quarters and took a 30-16 lead into halftime. The Explorers nearly matched UD in the third quarter, scoring 15 points to the Flyers’ 16, but the home team closed out the win with a 19-7 fourth quarter.

UD was led by Lauren Cannatelli with 13 points, and the Flyers got 37 points off the bench, led by Julia Chandler’s 11 points and team-high eight rebounds. Jayla Scaife scored 10 points and Araion Bradshaw led all players with eight assists.

Both Jeryn Reese and Shalina Miller scored 11 points for the Explorers. Reese had a double-double, adding in a game-high 10 rebounds.

Dayton also had 15 fast break points and 14 points off turnovers, while keeping La Salle of the board in both categories.
