Bazelak and Gatling Share #A10WBB Co-Player of the Week honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Duquesne junior Libby Bazelak and George Mason junior Camarie Gatling shared the Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week, while Davidson’s Suzi-Rose Deegan took home Rookie of the Week honors. The awards, announced Monday, are for games played Dec. 16-22.
 
Duquesne’s Libby Bazelak filled the stat sheet with 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and four steals in come-from-behind win over Kennesaw State. The guard from Kettering, Ohio, was 4-of-5 (.800) shooting, including a perfect 2-of-2 (1.000) from three and 6-of-6 (1.000) from the stripe. Bazelak leads the A-10 and the NCAA in three-point percentage (.519).
 
Gatling scored a career-high 18 points to go along with 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season against Howard on Saturday. She shot 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the field while adding eight of her 11 boards on the offensive end of the floor. The Richmond, Va., native also scored 16 points in Mason's win at Navy while shooting 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from the field. She added 10 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor during the period. She also added four rebounds and two steals. Overall, she averaged 17 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 64.0 percent from the floor (16-25).
 
In Davidson's lone game of the week, Deegan scored 30 points, her second 30-point game of the season. The freshman guard from Marmion, Australia, hit 12-of-21 (.571) shots with one 3-pointer and five free throws. She scored 18 of those points in the first half to help the 'Cats to a halftime lead. Deegan's nine rebounds tied a season best, while she pocketed a season-high and team season-best three steals. The double-digit scoring game was her team-leading ninth of the season

In Davidson's lone game of the week, Katie Turner scored 18 points on 5-of-9 (.566) shooting and a perfect 7-for-7 at the charity stripe … Dayton’s Erin Whalen averaged 17.3 points per game and shot 50 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from three, for the Flyers last week during their three-game stretch … Duquesne freshman Amaya Hamilton recorded five points, six boards and four assist in come-from-behind win over Kennesaw State on Friday night … La Salle freshman Claire Jacobs recorded a career-high 25 points against Villanova on Saturday going 8-of-20 (.400) from the floor, 2-of-4 (.500) from long range, and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line … St. Bonaventure’s Asianae Johnson averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals and helped the Bonnies to a 1-1 weekend at the UCF Holiday Tournament … Saint Joseph’s freshman Claire Melia totaled 27 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field, 13 rebounds, six assists, and three steals in SJU's 1-1 weekend at the FAU Holiday Classic … Saint Louis’ Ciaja Harbison tied a career-high 22 points versus Kansas on Sunday, leading led all scorers, while also contributing six assists, one rebound and one steal. She began the week with 12 points against Princeton, adding five assists, two steals and one rebound. Billiken freshman Rachel Kent scored eight points in the Billikens game against Princeton, and then she followed that up with 10 against Kansas.
