Daly, Mitchell Named A-10 Men’s Basketball Player, Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Joseph’s junior Ryan Daly Atlantic 10 Men’s basketball Player of the Week. Massachusetts freshman Tre Mitchell was selected as A-10 Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Dec. 16-22.
 
Leading the Hawks to a victory over William & Mary on Thursday, Daly posted his fifth double-double of the season as he finished with a game-high 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in an 84-69 win over the Tribe. Daly finished the night going 9-of-19 (.474) from the floor, 3-of-8 (.375) from 3-point range, and a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line. The Havertown, Pa., guard also handed out a team-high six assists and added three steals. The game marked the eighth time Daly crossed the 20-point plateau this season.
 
Mitchell had a game-high 23 points, three shy of a career-high, on 9-of-17 (.529) shooting and 3-of-6 (.500) from 3-point range. The performance by the center from Pittsburgh helped UMass snap a six-game losing streak and top Maine, 74-53, on Friday. Mitchell also added seven rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.

Davidson freshman Hyunjung Lee had 19 points on a near-perfect 7-of-8 (.875) shooting, including 5-for-6 (.833) from 3-point range to lead Davidson to a road win at Loyola-Chicago… Jalen Crutcher averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 11-of-9 (.579) from the field in Dayton’s two games last week  …  Duquesne’s Marcus Weathers scored 21 points on 8-of-10 (.800) shooting with eight rebounds in the win over Austin Peay, and had 18 points and six rebounds versus UAB … Jordan Miller was 7-for-11 (.636) from the field and 2-of-4 (.500) from 3-point range to score 17 points while collecting five rebounds and three steals in George Mason’s win over UMBC … Ed Croswell helped had an 18-point, 15-rebounds double-double, sinking 7-of-10 (.700) from the field to lift La Salle past Fairleigh Dickinson  … La Salle freshman Christian Ray had 10 rebounds in the Explorers’ win over Wagner, and then scored 15 points on 5-of-7 (.714) shooting in the FDU victory  … Rhode Island’s Tyrese Martin recorded 22 points and nine rebounds for the Rams in a key victory over Western Kentucky … Osun Osunniyi was dominant for St. Bonaventure, scoring 13 points versus Niagara, followed by an impressive 15, point, 16-rebound double-double with five blocks in a comeback win over Middle Tennessee State … Bonnies freshman Alejandro Vasquez had back-to-back double-digit scoring games in SBU’s two wins last week, including a 14-point performance where he was 5-of-8 (.625) from the field and 3-of-5 (.600) from 3-point rages versus Niagara … Saint Louis’ Jordan Goodwin had an impressive week, averaging a double-double with 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, while also recording an average of five assists and 3.5 steals per game in a pair of wins against Maryville and at Kansas State … SLU freshman Terrance Hargove, Jr., scored 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds versus Maryville, and then was 4-of-5 from the field for 10 points against K-State.
