Reimer's Blast Sends Billikens to Women's Soccer Championship Final

ST. LOUIS—Courtney Reimer’s blast midway through the first half was the only scoring top-seeded Saint Louis needed to outlast No. 4 La Salle, 1-0, in the 2019 Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Soccer Championship at Hermann Stadium Friday.

The defending champion Billikens (16-3-2) will make their second straight appearance in the title game. Riding a school-record 15-game unbeaten streak, SLU will face the winner of the second semifinal between No. 2 George Washington and No. 3 Massachusetts at noon on Sunday.

Saint Louis had a few early chances, but the La Salle defense, anchored by keeper Claudia Jenkins, turned those away, posting a spectacular leaping save on a hard, high shot by Reimer. Reimer broke through in the 27th minute from the center of the box after a feed from Hannah Freidrich.

Both Jenkins and SLU keeper Mary Niehaus made a pair of saves, and Niehaus posted her 11th shutout this season. It was also a record-tying 13th shutout for the Billikens this season.

Saint Louis held a definitive advantage in shots, 17-6, and led 3-1 in corner kicks. Friedrich took four shots to lead SLU while Maci Bower and Amirah Louketis each took two shots to lead La Salle (11-8-1).
