WASHINGTON – George Washington scored a trio of goals to earn a spot in the Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship semifinals, beating No. 7 Saint Joseph’s 3-0 in Saturday’s quarterfinal matchup at GW’s Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.

The second-seeded Colonials (13-2-4) will play in the semifinals Friday at 4:00 pm CT, 5:00 pm ET where they face the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between No. 3 Massachusetts and No. 6 Fordham, which will be played Sunday at 1:00 pm ET at UMass.

Despite the shots being close to even, with GW holding a 13-10 lead and a 7-4 advantage on shots on goal, the Colonials managed to find the back of the net three times while preserving a shutout against the Hawks.

Maria Pareja struck first for George Washington, scoring the only first half goal of the game in the fifth minute on a pass from Hannah Zaluski.

Almost seven minutes into the second half, Zaluski set up another goal, this time feeding Sofia Pavon, whose goal gave GW some insurance. Rachel Sorkenn secured the victory in the 73rd minute, scoring on a pass from Tori Minda.

Both keepers, SJU’s Cameron Perrott and Tamaki Machis for George Washington made four saves. Individually, Kylie D’Ambra and Morgan Bower each had three shots to lead the Hawks. Pavon tallied three shots to lead GW.
