Billikens Explode for Five Goals to Advance to Women's Soccer Semis

SAINT LOUIS – Top-seeded Saint Louis exploded for five goals in a shutout win to defeat No. 8 Duquesne 5-0 in the Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship Quarterfinals at Hermann Stadium Saturday afternoon.
 
The Billikens (15-3-2) advance to face No. 4 La Salle at 1:00 pm CT, 2:00 pm ET on Friday at Hermann Stadium. The Explorers defeated Dayton 1-0 in their quarterfinal match Saturday.
 
SLU wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring 42 seconds into the match on a goal by Alyssa Seitzer off a pass from Hannah Friedrich. Friedrich recorded her second assist in the 25th minute, setting up Courtney Reimer to put the Billikens up 2-0. Annabelle Copeland gave SLU a 3-0 lead that would hold until halftime, scoring in the 34th minute thanks to a pass from Abbie Miller.
 
Reimer struck again in the 70th minute, tallying a marker on a rebound with help from Isabel Burke. Megan Nixon danced around the keeper in the 79th minute for Saint Louis’ final goal of the day, following a pass from Brionna Halverson.
 
Mary Niehaus made four saves to preserve the shutout. Saint Louis took 29 shots, 17 of which were on goal. Friedrich led the way with six shots, followed by Reimer’s five. SLU also took eight corner kicks.
 
Duquesne keeper Megan Virgin made a whopping 11 saves, and in all the Dukes record 12 saves. DU (6-8-3) took eight shots, four of which were on goal, with Deena Debaldo leading the way with five shots.
