NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton sophomore Obi Toppin and Richmond junior Nick Sherod as its Co-Players of the Week. Massachusetts freshman T.J. Weeks was named A-10 Rookie of the Week. The weekly awards, the first of the season, were announced Monday and are for games played Nov. 5-10.

Toppin led Dayton to a season-opening win by scoring a career-high 29 points and matching his best rebound number (12). He scored eight of UD's final 14 points in the last 3:25 as Dayton protected its lead in the close game. He hit three of the Flyers’ nine free throws in the final 1:41 and scored 16 points in the second half. The forward from Brooklyn was 10-of-16 (.625) from the field, and 8-of-11 (.727) from the line, with three assists and two blocks. He also tallied six dunks in the win. His performance capped a week where he was named to both the James Naismith Trophy and Lute Olson Award Watch lists for national player of the year.

Sherod led all players with 27 points and added eight rebounds, which was tied for the team-high, in Richmond's 100-98 overtime win against Saint Francis (Pa.). The guard from Richmond, Va., made 9-of-17 (.529) from the field, including 6-of-12 (.500) from 3-point range. He played 37 minutes in his first game back since tearing his left ACL in November of 2018. He helped Richmond rally to a win, scoring seven points in final three minutes of regulation as Spiders erased a 12-point deficit to force overtime.

Weeks came off the bench in each of UMass' first two games, helping the Minutemen to a 2-0 start to the season for the second straight year. He had 23 points on 8-of-12 (.667) shooting and was 4-of-6 (.667) from three, along with two blocks and two steals, in his collegiate debut against UMass Lowell. His 23 points were the most for a UMass freshman in his debut in more than 20 years. The guard from Warwick, R.I., followed that up with nine points and six rebounds at Fairfield to help UMass erase a 10-point deficit and pick up its first road win of the season.
