NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Davidson juniors Crossan Cooper and Isabella McElrath claimed Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the week accolades, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. Freshman teammates Thacher Scannell and Hannah Gould were awarded Men’s and Women’s Rookie of the Week. All four awards are for meets from Oct. 29 – Nov. 4.
In Wildcats' win over Old Dominion Saturday, Cooper won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:41.28 and the 200-yard individual medley in 1:55.54, the latter of which clinched the team victory. The Scottsboro, Ala., native also placed second in the 1000-yard free (9:41.92).
McElrath won three events in Davidson's win over Old Dominion. The Baltimore, Md., native swept the 100-yard butterfly (58.15) and 200-yard butterfly (2:07.18) and swam on the Wildcats' winning 200-yard medley relay (1:49.84). She also placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.54).
In the team win over Old Dominion Saturday, Scannell won the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:41.58) and finished second behind winning teammate Crossan Cooper in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.34). The Stamford, Conn., native was also part of second-place 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:08.01).
Against Old Dominion, Gould won the 100-yard breaststroke by nearly a full second (1:07.69). The Rockville, Md., native also earned points in the 200-yard breaststroke (2nd, 2:24.20), the 200-yard medley relay (2nd, 1:51.01) and the 200-yard individual medley (4th, 2:13.43).
