ORLANDO, Fla. — George Washington and Richmond each shot a 15-under 273 to finish day one in first place at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship at Grand Cypress Golf Club.

Both teams have three players in the top 10, including having players tied for the lead, with Vince Palazzolo and Zack Justice each carding a 66 to tie for first place. GW's Logan Lowe is tied for third with a 67 and Christian Cichan shot a 69 to tie for ninth. Keegan Hoff's 68 put him in a tie for fifth place for Richmond while his teammate Andrew Sciaretta shot a 69 to match Cichan and tie for ninth.

Three-time defending champion VCU is in third place with a nine-under 279, spurred by a 67 from Jamie Clare's 67 and a 68 by Alister Balcombe. Dayton, which was picked to win the championship in the Coaches' Preseason Poll, is in fourth with a five-under 283. The Flyers were led by Brendan Keating, who also tied for ninth with a 69.

Davidson and George Mason each finished with a 285, three under par and good for a tie for fifth place.

Ten players carded an eagle on the day, but no one had more than one. Richmond had three different players record an eagle (Justice, Matthew Lowe, Mark Reilly), while VCU had two (Clare, Enej Sarkanj). Hoff and La Salle's Nick Gruber each had seven birdies in the first round to lead the field.

Tee times for Saturday's second round will begin at 7:30 am. The winner of the 54-hole event receives the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
