Richmond, Dayton Earn Spots in #A10MTEN Semis

ORLANDO, Fla.- The top-seeded Richmond Spiders defeated the No. 9 seed Duquesne Dukes, 4-1 in Friday's quarterfinal matchup at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. The Spiders will face No. 5 Dayton on Saturday at 2:00 pm. 

The Spiders jumped out to an early leading taking the doubles point as Jon Quenard and Caleb Troy defeated Tim Kane and Jared Isaacs, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. Spider teammates Jacob Dunbar and Alex Felisa sealed the doubles win with a 6-2 victory. 

Canyon Teague helped the Spiders extend their lead as he defeated Issacs at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-0 decision. Dunbar added to Richmond's lead with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1. Duquesne picked up it's lone point at No. 6 as Richmond's James Aronson had to retire to Chris Corrao, who was leading 2-0 in the third set. Troy clinched the match at No. 3 with a hard fought battle over Drew Akins, winning 7-5, 6-4. 

The Spiders and the Flyers have not faced each other yet this season.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The fifth-seeded Dayton Flyers gutted out a hard-fought victory over No. 4 Davidson on Friday afternoon in the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis quarterfinals. The Flyers will face the top-seeded Richmond Spiders on Saturday at 2pm in the semifinals.

Dayton's Carsten Fisher and Zach Berry were the first to finish on court one, defeating JB Gough and Axel Fries, 6-2. The Wildcats would even the score on the second court, outlasting the Flyers with a 6-4 victory. The final match, which lasted nearly an hour, saw Davidson's Jack Rizzi and Ricky Saad win 7-6(2) against Graham Reinbold and Andy Druffel, who were in the midst of making a furious comeback on the final court.

With the Wildcats leading 1-0, UD struck at the top two singles courts as Jordan Benjamin defeated Shamael Chaudhry, 6-3, 6-4, and Carsten Fisher defeated David Hager, 6-3, 6-3, putting the Flyers up 2-1. 

Davidson answered back with wins on courts five and four. Artem Khrapko took set one, 6-2, before beating Lorenzo Rollhauser in the tiebreaker, 7-5. JB Gough won tiebreakers in both sets to outlast Simon Jayaram, 7-6, 7-6, to put the Wildcats back in control.

With only courts six and three remaining, Dayton's Andy Druffel forced a third set with Ricky Saad. Leading 3-0 in the final set, Saad retired at No. 6 singles, knotting the match once again. Dayton's Berry also forced a third and final set with Axel Fries on No. 3 singles. Down in the third, the Flyers' junior then rallied back, pushing Fries to the tiebreak point, and winning 7-6(2) and clinching for Dayton.

Dayton advances to face No. 1 Richmond on Saturday at 2pm. The teams have not yet met this season.
