Orlando, Fla - The second-seeded Massachusetts Minutewomen defeated the No. 7 seed Duquesne, 4-1, in a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday evening. UMass moves on to the semifinals where they await the winner of No. 3 Fordham/No. 11 Rhode Island. The semifinal matchup will be played at 10:00 am on Saturday.
The Minutewomen came out strong clinching the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 wins at the No. 3 and No. 2 spots. Brittany Collens and Laura Moreno teamed up at No. 3 to defeat their Dukes opponents, Ally Miller and Zuzanna Stelmaszak. Ana Yrazusta and Janja Kovacevic cliched the doubles point for the Minutewomen with a victory over Megan Wasson and Laurel Shymansky.
Yrazusta only dropped two sets on her way to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Megan Wasson claiming the first singles point for UMass. Anna Woosley was the next to finish her match up with Miller, where she won 6-2, 6-1. Duquesne's Julianne Herman was the lone Duke to earn a point with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at second singles over Ruth Crawford. Collens clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 decision on the No. 5 spot.
UMass closed the regular season with wins over both Fordham (5-2) and Rhode Island (6-0).

ORLANDO, FLA - Top-seeded VCU Rams defeated No. 8 Richmond in a back-and-fourth battle in the final match of game two of the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship. VCU earns its spot in a semifinal matchup and awaits the winner of No. 4 Davidson/No. 5 Saint Louis who plays Friday at 9:00 am.
The Rams won the top spot in doubles 6-2 to open the match, but the Spiders took the final two points to clinch. Dessislava Zlateva and Gaby Rosales defeated VCU's Darya Berezhnaya and Magda Aubets, 6-4 at No. 2 making the match even. Lea Owens and Brittany Boys clinched the point at No. 3 with a 7-5 victory.
Singles was just as competitive, as VCU won the first point at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-3. Richmond answered with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at the fifth spot as Kelsey Williams defeated Gabriela Araujo. It continued to go back-and-forth until VCU's Magda Aubets delieved the match clinching point winning 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 over Gaby Rosales.
The Rams did not meet Davidson in the regular season, but defeated Saint Louis 6-1 in late February. The awaited opponent and VCU will square off on Saturday at 10:00 am. This is VCU's fifth trip to the A-10 semifinals since joining the league in 2012.
