ORLANDO, Fla. – Seventh-seeded Duquesne rattled off four singles victories to defeat No. 10 George Mason, 4-1, in Wednesday's first round match at USTA National Campus. With the win, the Dukes will face No. 2 Massachusetts, who earned a first round by in the A-10 Women's Tennis Championship.
Duquesne won the top spot in doubles 6-2, but George Mason battled back winning two at the No. 2 and No. 3 position. Scarlett Walston and Olivia Lacy-Thompson took the win at the No. 2 spot 6-4 over Megan Wasson and Laurel Shymansky. Partners, Morgan Yang and Nicole Haigwood took third doubles in a tiebreaker, giving George Mason the doubles win.
Kylie Isaacs garnered the first singles point for Duquesne downing her Mason opponent 6-2,6-0. The Dukes continued to dominate on the court as Juliane Herman took a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 and Laurel Shymansky defeated Nicole Haigwood at No. 6, 6-1, 6-3. Aishwarya Kona had the match clinching point with her 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5 over Olivia Lacy-Thompson.
Duquesne and Massachusetts have yet to meet this season.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The 11th seeded Rhode Island Rams defeated No. 6 Dayton Flyers, 4-3, on Wednesday at the USTA National Campus in the opening round of play in the A-10 Women's Tennis Championship.
The Rams took the doubles point as the pair of Emily Zangram and Rachel Smilansky recorded the win at No. 1 doubles 7-5, and Tiara Higuchi and Mihaela Codreanu won 7-6.
In a back-and-forth match, the Rams proved victorious in No. 5 singles as Rhode Island's Ariel Haber defeated Dayton's Natalie Allen by a score of 7-5, 7-6, to take the match by a final of 4-3.
With the win, Rhode Island advanced to face No. 3 Fordham at 9:00 am on Friday, April 28.
