RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Making his Olympic debut for the Argentina National Team, former GW star Patricio Garino turned in an efficient performance to help his team cruise to a 94-66 win over Nigeria Sunday night at Carioca Arena.
Garino connected on 5-of-6 shots from the floor, including knocking down his only 3-point attempt, while hitting 4-of-5 at the line to finish with 15 points. He also grabbed six rebounds in a game that Argentina never trailed.
Garino, who was in the starting lineup and logged 25 minutes, was one of five Argentines to score in double figures. Facundo Campazzo came off the bench to net a game-high 19, Luis Scola had 18, Manu Ginobili had 12 and Andres Nocioni had 10.
Argentina, which is in Group B along with Nigeria, Brazil, Croatia, Lithuania and Spain, returns to action on Tuesday at 8:30 ET against Croatia. After round robin pool play, the top four teams from each group advance to the knockout stage, which gets underway on Wednesday, Aug. 17.
