NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— Massachusetts senior Jabarie Hinds was named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday, while Fordham freshman Joseph Chartouny was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards are for games played Feb. 8-14.
Hinds, a point guard from Mount Vernon, N.Y., averaged 27.5 points, 6.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game during a pair of wins against VCU and Duquesne. He shot 20-for-30 overall (.667), including 8-of-9 from beyond the arc (.889) with seven made free throws in eight attempts (.875). He scored 18 in the win over VCU before he exploded for a career-best 37 points at Duquesne. Against the Dukes, Hinds posted 24 points in the second half as the Minutemen erased a 10-point halftime deficit to force OT in the Palumbo Center. Hinds ended the game at Duquesne 13-for-20 from the floor, including 7-for-8 on 3-pointers, hitting his final six 3-point attempts (5 in the second half, 1 in OT). Hinds distributed the ball nearly evenly across both games as he dished out seven assists against VCU before he added six at Duquesne.
Chartouny averaged 14.0 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game and 7.5 assists per game in two games on the week. A guard from Saint-Hubert, Quebec, he recorded his fourth double-double of the year with 15 points and a season-high eleven assists versus St. Bonaventure. Chartouny also had five rebounds and four assists in the St. Bonaventure game. He scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds and had four assists at Richmond. It’s the fifth A-10 rookie award for Chartouny this season.

Scoochie Smith averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a pair of wins for Dayton … UD freshman Sam Miller scored 16 points in Dayton’s two wins, registering seven rebounds and shooting 50 percent (6-of-12) from the field … Micah Mason had a stellar week for Duquesne, sinking 10-of-17 from 3-point range and 15-of-29 (.517) from the field, scoring 27 points at Dayton and recording a 29-point, 10-assist double-double against UMass … Fordham’s Ryan Rhoomes scored 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting with nine rebounds against St. Bonaventure and a 19-point, 12-rebounds double-double at Richmond … Jalen Jenkins averaged 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in a split week for George Mason, including grabbing a key offensive rebound that set the stage for a game-winning layup against Davidson … Mason freshman DeAndre Abram also averaged 13.5 points in the split week for the Patriots, scoring 16 at Rhode Island and 11 versus Davidson … La Salle freshman Yevgen Sakhniuk scored 20 points against Davidson, hitting 9-for-11 from the field … Rhode Island’s Four McGlynn was hot this week, sinking 11-of-20 (.550) from beyond the arc and 16-for-28 (.571) from the field to score 25 points in the win over George Mason and 19 against Dayton … T.J. Cline had 18 points on 8-of-12 (.667) shooting with five rebounds and five assists for Richmond at Saint Louis, followed by 13 points, four rebounds and four assists in a win over Fordham … St. Bonaventure’s Jaylen Adams scored 19 points on 7-for-10 (.700) from the field against George Washington after having an 11-point, nine-assist night at Fordham … Bona freshman Jordan Tyson scored eight points with four rebounds and three blocks … Saint Joseph’s Isaiah Miles averaged 20 points and 8.5 rebounds in a pair of key wins for the Hawks, scoring 21 on 8-of-12 (.667) shooting with nine rebounds and two steals at GW and 19 points with eight boards versus La Salle.
