DAVIDSON, N.C. – Rhode Island junior Ryan Bailey scored twice in the Rams 3-1 victory over third-seeded La Salle in the Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Championship quarterfinals Thursday at Alumni Soccer Stadium.
Rhode Island (8-10-1) advanced to play No. 2 Fordham Friday in a 7:30 pm semifinal.
The Rams struck first at the 37 minute mark as Bailey found net off a counter attack, he was helped by teammates Stavros Zarokostas and Dominik Richter. Just 32 seconds later Zarokostas found the far post off a through ball to put the Rhode Island up by 2. Ryan Bailey was credited with the assist.
La Salle answered with a goal in the 79th minute following a free kick as Matt Robinson battled to put one between the post as Jake Saba set him up with a pass.
The Rams added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute of regulation as Bailey had a one on one situation and had a hard shot right past the keeper.
Rhode Island had 12 shots to La Salle’s nine; the Explorers led in corners 6-4 and had three saves to Rhode Island’s two.
The Explorers finish their season with a 10-8-1 overall record.
