NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Saint Louis senior Danielle Rygelski was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while Dayton sophomore Margo Wolf earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Dayton’s Jamie Peterson and VCU’s Gina Tuzzolo were selected as the league’s Co-Rookies of the Week. All awards, presented by Come Ready Nutrition, were for matches played Oct. 17-23.
Rygelski recorded double-doubles in both matches this weekend against conference opponents, Duquesne and La Salle. Against the Dukes, the outside hitter from St. Charles, Mo., tallied 23 kills, 11 digs and three aces. She also hit .314, the ninth time this season that Rygelski has recorded more than 20 kills and hit over .300. Against La Salle on Sunday, she had 14 kills, three five aces and 11 digs, all team-highs for SLU. Overall, Rygelski recorded 5.29 kills per set, 1.14 aces per set and 3.14 digs per set for the weekend.
Wolf continues to lead the Flyers from the back row as the team's libero, starting in all 23 matches this season. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native averaged 7.00 digs per set in two wins for the Flyers. Wolf recorded a team-high 13 digs to go with two assists and one service ace in a sweep of La Salle on Friday. In Sunday's 3-1 win over Duquesne, she passed a career-high 36 digs and she aslo posted a 1.000 reception percentage for the weekend.
Peterson, an outside hitter from West Liberty, Ohio, scored 2.21 points per set for the Flyers in two weekend victories. She had five kills, two blocks and one digs in a sweep of La Salle on Friday, and followed with eight kills to go with three blocks in Dayton's 3-1 win over Duquesne on Sunday. Over the weekend, she posted a 1.000 reception percentage while averaging 1.86 kills per set and 0.71 blocks per set for Dayton
Tuzzolo, an opposite hitter from Newport News, Va., averaged 1.88 kills per set and recorded an attack percentage of .244 over two weekend victories against George Washington and George Mason. She also scored 2.12 points per set and averaged 0.50 blocks per set.
