UMass? Cady Lalanne Selected By San Antonio In 2015 NBA Draft

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Former Massachusetts men’s basketball standout Cady Lalanne was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 55th overall selection in the 2015 NBA Draft, held at the Barclays Center Thursday night.

Lalanne is the 16th player in school history to have his name called on draft night, but the first since Stephane Lasme in 2007. He is the first Minutemen player taken by the Spurs. He was the only player from an Atlantic 10 Conference school selected.

Although Lalanne is the first A-10 selection in the draft since St. Bonaventure's Andrew Nicholson was taken by the Orlando Magic in the 2012 draft, both former Saint Joseph's standout Langston Galloway (New York Knicks) and former VCU star Troy Daniels (Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Charlotte Hornets) have been impact players since signing free agent agreements since 2013.

Lalanne turned heads early in the professional process with a strong showing at the Portsmouth Invitational, using his impressive 7-foot-5 inch wingspan to lead the tournament with 12.3 rebounds to go along with 13.3 points and 2.3 blocks en route to a spot on the all-tournament team.

Lalanne was a first team All-USBWA District I and third team All-Atlantic 10 selection in 2014-15 after he led the team with 11.6 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and a 55.2 field goal percentage. He produced 14 of his 30 career double-doubles during his senior campaign.

The 6-foot-10, 250-pound big man completed his career at UMass 35th all-time in scoring with 1,107 points, sixth in rebounds with 881, fifth in blocks with 197 and sixth in shooting pct. with 55.3. He was also one of just three players in program history with 1,000 points, 800 rebounds and 100 blocks in their career, joining Lou Roe and Harper Williams.

Lalanne worked out for 16 teams between May 19 and June 24, with his last coming at San Antonio on Tuesday.
