EUGENE, Oregon – The most decorated track & field athlete in VCU history took to the track one final time on Saturday.
Senior Kiara Porter closed out her incredible career with a program record fifth All-American accolade, finishing eighth in the 400-meter finals at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday in Tracktown USA. It's her second straight First Team All-American honor on the outdoor circuit.
"I'm so proud of this young lady. She exhibit the essence of a student-athlete," Head Coach Jon Riley said. "From day one, she excelled in the classroom and on the track. Multiple All-Academic and Track & Field All-American Honors is all a coach can ask for. She made me and all of #RamNation proud with an incredible career."
Porter narrowly missed seventh place with a time of 52.65, finishing just .02 seconds behind Texas' Ashley Spencer.
"Lane 1 is a difficult lane to run out of with those caliber of athletes on the national level, but I gave it my all and left everything I had on the track," Porter said. "I'm just so honored to receive another First Team All American honor as a VCU Ram. It saddens me that me that my collegiate career is over because it went by so fast, but I'm truly blessed and grateful to have been able to travel and compete in the sport I love at VCU!"
The Yorktown, Va. native earned All-American honors in the outdoor season in 2013, 2014 and 2015, while also earning accolades on the indoor side in 2014 and 2015.
It is the most All-American honors in track & field history and second-most in athletic department history. Maria Elena-Calle still holds that record with six, four of which came on the track, two of which came in cross country.
