FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason Men’s Outdoor Track & Field team captured the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship on Sunday with 190.5 points. Rhode Island finished second with 166.5 points. Duquesne (85), VCU (81) and Massachusetts (76.5) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Saint Joseph’s finished sixth with 75 points and was followed by La Salle (52), Davidson (43), Saint Louis (42), Fordham (40.5) and George Washington (3).

The Patriots overcame a deficit after day one following gold medal performances in the 4x100 relay, the 4x400 relay, the triple jump (Jim Tele), the high jump (John Seals), the 100 meter hurdles (Anthony Williams), 100 meters (Ayodeji Raymond) and 200 meters (Bernard Freeman).

Rhode Island, this year’s runner up and the leader after day one, recorded several second place finishes on day two including in the discus (Sam Snyder), the shot put (Sam Snyder), the high jump (Jack Khars), the 4x100 and 4x400 relays and the 110 meter hurldes (John Stallworth).

George Mason’s Bernard Freeman was honored as the Men’s Track Performer of the Year following first place performances in the 200 meters (21.25) and in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

VCU’s Brando Ruffin was named the Men’s Field Performer of the Year after earning gold in the shot put (17.78 meters), silver in the hammer throw (53.61 meters), and bronze in the discus (48.02).

John Seals of George Mason finished first in the high jump with a mark of 2.12 and was named the Men’s Rookie of the Year.

Andrew Gerard of George Mason was named Coach of the Year.

Massachusetts’ Benjamin Groleau set a new A-10 record in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:48.43.
