FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason Women’s Track & Field team successfully defended its outdoor title as winning the 2015 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship with 176 points. VCU finished second with 136 points and was followed by Dayton in third with 92 points. Rounding out the top five was Massachusetts (76.5) in fourth and Duquesne and Richmond each tied with 72. Rhode Island was seventh with 62 points and was followed by Saint Louis (55.5), Saint Joseph’s (35), Davidson (31), La Salle (27), Fordham (19) and George Washington (4).
Mason extended their day one lead following gold medal performances in the 100 meter hurdles (Shavon Briscoe), triple jump (Nhautrey Brown), high jump (Talisha Watts) and the discus (Michelle Wallerstedt).
Runner-up VCU was led by winning performances in the 4x100 relay, the 4x400 relay, 100 meters (Qualitra Brown) and the 200 and 400 meters (Kiara Porter).
Davidson’s Erin Osment was honored as the Track Performer of the Year after finishing first in both the women’s 5,000 (16:32.86) and 10,000 meters (34:36.74).
George Mason’s Amanda Denger was named the Field Performer of the Year. Denger finished first in the javelin (41.84 meters) and the heptathlon (5,170 points).
Erin Reese of Dayton collected Rookie of the Year honors after finishing second in the women’s shot put (13.41 meters), second in the hammer (50.65 meters) and third in the discus (42.33 meters).
George Mason’s Andrew Gerard was honored as Coach of the Year.
Additional race winners included La Salle’s Morgan Szekely (1,500 meters), Heather MacLean of Massachusetts (800 meters), Duquesne’s Anna Simone (400 meter hurdles) and Richmond won the 4x800 relay.
