NEWPORT NEWS, Va.--After a topsy-turvy finish to the regular season and a thrilling championship that concluded Sunday, the Atlantic 10 landed six teams in the postseason, including three in the NCAA Tournament. VCU, Davidson, and Dayton all earned NCAA bids while Richmond, Rhode Island and George Washington were all selected for the NIT.
VCU, the Atlantic 10 Champion, will play Thursday as a No. 7 seed in Portland, Ore., in the West Region. The Rams (26-9) play No. 10 Ohio State (23-10) at 4:40 pm ET on TNT in the first round at the Moda Center. The winner will advance to face the winner of No. 2 Arizona and No. 15 Texas Southern on Saturday.
Davidson (24-7) is a No. 10 seed and will play No. 7 Iowa (21-11) in the South Region. That game will air on TNT at 7:20 pm ET on Friday. The Wildcats received the program’s first-ever at-large bid Sunday. The winner advances to play the victor between No. 2 Gonzaga and No. 15 North Dakota Sunday.
Dayton (25-8) was selected as an 11 seed at gets the opportunity to play the rare home game, hosting No. 11 Boise State (25-8) Wednesday at 9:10 pm on truTV at University of Dayton Arena. The winner will play No. 6 Providence Friday in Columbus Ohio at 9:57 pm on truTV. If UD wins that game, the Flyers earn a date with the winner of No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 14 Albany.
Richmond was selected to host NIT through the first three rounds. The Spiders (19-13) are a No. 1 seed, and will host No. 8 St. Francis Brooklyn (23-11). That game will air on Wednesday at 7:30 pm on ESPN3. No. 4 UConn or No. 5 Arizona State await the Spiders should Richmond win.
Rhode Island (22-9) is a No. 3 seed in the NIT and will play Iona (26-8) on Tuesday at home. ESPNU will carry that game, with the winner advancing to face the No. 2 Stanford and No. 7 UC Davis.
No. 5 George Washington (21-12) will play Tuesday on ESPN against No. 4 Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh. The Colonials (19-14)/Panthers winner faces the Temple/Bucknell winner.
