NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Dayton's Alexis Kiehl and George Washington's Ellen Conway have been named Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer Co-Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. Duquesne's Kyra Murphy was selected as Rookie of the Week. The awards are for games played Oct. 19-25.
Kiehl registered her first collegiate hat trick and added an assist in Dayton's 6-1 victory over St. Bonaventure. The sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio scored 42 seconds into the match, and twice in the second half, her seven points a career-best for her in a single match and in the league this season. Kiehl also had an assist in Dayton's 2-0 win over Rhode Island, for eight points on the weekend.
Conway earned her first victory of the season on Sunday, playing 99 minutes of GW's 1-0 double overtime win at George Mason. Coming on in relief after an injury to GW's starter, the senior from Acton, Mass., posted a career-high seven saves to keep the Colonials alive until MacKenzie Cowley netted the golden goal in the 107th minute of play. The shutout marked GW's 11th of the season, breaking a program record that had stood since 1990. The win also preserved GW's 11-match win streak, the longest active streak in women's soccer.
Murphy recorded a pair of shutouts against conference foes Massachusetts and Rhode Island last week. The rookie from Canonsburg, Pa., tallied eight saves on 22 shots faced, preserving a 1-0 victory over Massachusetts. Murphy then picked up her fifth shutout on the year as the Dukes defeated Rhode Island, 3-0. The goalkeeper has held opponents scoreless for the last 204 minutes.
