Gibbs, Sengfelder Earn Second Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— Davidson sophomore Jack Gibbs was named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week and Fordham freshman Chris Sengfelder was named Rookie of the Week Monday. The awards, which were the second for each honoree this season, were for games played Dec. 29 – Jan. 4.

Gibbs averaged 26.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists, while shooting .667 (16-24) from the floor, .600 (9-15) from 3-point range and going 12-of-14 from the charity stripe. The guard began the week with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including four treys in Davidson's hard-fought 83-72 setback at No. 3 Virginia. The Westerville, Ohio, native capped his week with 32 points (including 23 in the first half), six rebounds and four assists in the Wildcats' first-ever Atlantic 10 contest, an 81-67 win over Richmond. Gibbs, who has scored at least 20 points in a half three times this season, finished 9-of-14 from the floor, 5-of-9 from three and 9-of-10 from the line against the Spiders. Gibbs, who also was named Player of the Week on Dec. 1, is one of two A-10 players with two 30-plus point games (La Salle’s Jordan Price is the other).

Sengfelder scored a career-high 22 points, shooting 9-for-13 from the field, in win over South Carolina State on Wednesday. He also grabbed seven rebounds and had a block and two steals. A forward from Leverkusen, Germany, he followed that with six points, and eight rebounds versus VCU to average 14 points per game and 7.5 rebounds in the split week for Fordham.  

A-10 Weekly Honor Roll

Jordan Sibert averaged 18 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in leading Dayton to a win over Ole Miss and a league victory against Duquesne … Shevon Thompson had 11 rebounds at Oklahoma and then scored 13 points and had nine rebounds in Mason’s win over La Salle … Mason freshman Isaiah Jackson recorded seven steals last week, including four at Oklahoma … Kethan Savage of George Washington had an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double against VMI and was 10-of-11 at the charity stripe in that game … GW freshman Yuta Watanabe averaged 11 points, scoring 10 versus VMI and 12 at Saint Joseph’s in a pair of wins for the Colonials … Jerrell Wright scored 16 points for La Salle against George Mason with a perfect 6-for-6 performance from the field while also averaging 6.5 rebounds for the week … Explorer freshman Amar Stukes tallied 13 points versus Penn on 6-of-8 shooting from the field … Trey Davis was almost perfect from the field for UMass, tallying 25 points on 10-of-11 shooting and 5-of-6 from 3-point range to lead the Minutemen past Iona … Hassan Martin of Rhode Island averaged 16 points, 7,5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks and shot 72.2 percent from the field in a 2-0 week for the Rams … Richmond’s Kendall Anthony tallied 16.5 points and 3.5 assists, including shooting 7-for-11 versus Northeastern … Marcus Posley averaged 19 points per game for St. Bonaventure, including 22 points at Delaware and three steals in each game … Bona  freshman Jaylen Adams scored 14 points in the win at UMass and recorded seven total assists in the Bonnies two games … Saint Louis freshman Milik Yarbrough averaged 16 points, including 19 versus Rhode island, shooting 58.3 percent from the field against the Rams … Treveon Graham scored 20 points and had nine rebounds against Cleveland State and 14 points and seven rebounds at Fordham in a pair of VCU wins … VCU freshman Terry Larrier scored 13 points against Cleveland State, shooting 57.1 percent from the field.
