Pierre, Ndoye, Paschall Share Weekly Men's Basketball Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— Dayton junior Dyshawn Pierre and St. Bonaventure senior Youssou Ndoye were named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week Monday. Fordham freshman Eric Paschall also earned his second A-10 Rookie of the Week honor. The awards were for games played Jan. 12 – Jan. 18.

Pierre led Dayton to a pair of wins with back-to-back double-doubles. He had 16 points and 14 rebounds (along with three assists) versus La Salle, and then 10 points, 12 rebounds and five assists against Saint Louis. Pierre, a forward from Whitby, Ontario, has had seven straight games with at least 10 points and six rebounds.

Over two wins, Ndoye averaged 21.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks for the Bonnies. A center from Dakar, Senegal, he went 13-15 from the field and 17-21 at the free throw line for the week and he set a career high with his 28 points in the 75-55 win over George Mason. He also grabbed 13 rebounds, tying his season high, and was 9-11 from the field and 10-11 at the line. He then scored 15 points and had six rebounds, three blocks and a career high five assists in a win over Saint Joseph's.

Paschall averaged 20.5 points per game in two games for the Rams last week. He recorded 16 points, spurred by 4-of-5 (.800) shooting from 3-point range at Saint Joseph’s. A guard from Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., he added three rebounds, three steals and a block against the Hawks. He followed that with 25 points at La Salle on 9-of-24 shooting.

A-10 Weekly Honor Roll

Tyler Kalinoski scored 17 points per game and averaged 3.5 assists in a split week for Davidson, including shooting 41.7 percent from 3-point range and a perfect 9-of-9 at the line … Davidson freshman Peyton Aldridge scored 13 points, grabbed nine rebounds and swatted three blocks at UMass … George Mason’s Shevon Thompson averaged 14.5 points on 12-of-19 shooting (.632) as well as securing 7.5 rebounds in the Patriots’ two games … Jordan Price scored 14 points per game, had 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a split week for La Salle … UMass freshman Zach Coleman scored 13 points to help the Minutemen beat Rhode Island, hitting 4-of-6 from the field … Hassan Martin recorded a 10-point, 10-rebounds double-double against VCU while also recording six blocks, followed by 13 points, six rebounds and four blocks at UMass … Richmond’s Kendall Anthony broke 20 points in both Richmond games, tallying 20  points with three free throws to force overtime against GW, followed by 25 points on 7-of-11 (.636) from 3-point range in a win over Davidson … DeAndre’ Bembry scored 27 points, hitting 6-of-9 (.667) from 3-point rage versus St. Bonaventure … Ash Yacoubou led Saint Louis to a win over Duquesne with an 18-point, 10 rebounds double-double with three assists … Saint Louis freshman Marcus Bartley scored 13 points on 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, and dished out three assists in the Duquesne win …  Treveon Graham scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds, including  16 points and six rebounds in the final 15 minutes, to lead VCU to a crucial road win at URI on Tuesday.
