RICHMOND, Va. – Saint Joseph’s downed George Mason 89-55 to advance to the Quarterfinals of the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Championship at the Richmond Coliseum.
The Hawks (22-8) came out of the gate taking the early 19-9 lead with less than 10 minutes in the half. The Patriots (8-23) would work to cut that lead to 10 points, but SJU held a 38-25 lead at the break,
Taylor Brown led all scorers with 12 points for Mason shooting 4-11 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the line. Sandra Ngoie added eight points.
In the second stanza SJU outshot GMU 57.7% - 28.6% to maintain their edge. Five Hawks posted double-digits led by Kelsey Berger who recorded 15 points shooting 5-6 from the field and 4-4 from the stripe. Cloud finished with a game-high nine rebounds.
Six of seven SJU players tallied double-digit minutes, to balance the Hawks’ offense; each player posting at least four points. Ilze Gotfrida notched a team-high nine points while Natasha Cloud brought down a period-high eight boards.
SJU will face the fourth-seed Colonials of George Washington on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
