DAYTON, Ohio - The top-seeded La Salle Explorers advanced to the semifinals of the 2014 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship with a 3-0 win against eighth-seeded Massachusetts at the University of Dayton's Baujan Field.
The Explorers (13-4-2) got on the board in the 13th minute when senior Maryam Huseini floated a ball to the top left corner of the goal. Anna Dolhansky assisted on the play. The goal was the first of the season for Huseini.
The score remained 1-0 until the 73rd minute of play when Huseini sent a ball inside the box to a waiting Jessika Kagan, who fired a shot from the 18 towards the lower left post, her sixth goal on the year. Huseini, who holds the all-time assists record at La Salle, tallied her 12th of the year.
La Salle got its final goal on a line drive from Fia Jonsson, UMass goalkeeper Danielle Kriscenski got a glove on the ball before it got past her for a goal.
The Explorers held the shots advantage, 18-10, with Jessica Wiggins registering four saves. Kriscenski made six saves for the Minutewomen.
La Salle will play in tomorrow's 5:00 pm semifinal against the winner of No. 4 George Washington and No. 5 Rhode Island.
