PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Richmond defeated Temple, 1-0, to capture its seventh Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship title on Saturday, outshooting the Owls 18-2.
The Spiders struck first when senior Emily Straniero netted a goal off a deflected corner, recording teammates Katelin Peterson and Catherine Ostoich with the assists.
Straniero's goal was the only tally of the day thanks to the extraordinary goalkeeping by the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament, Temple's Lizzy Millen.
Richmond's offense was the best defense as the Owls only recorded two shots in the day. As a final effort Temple replaced it's goalie with a kicking back and despite several close attempts, could not find the back of the net.
After the Championship game, the Atlantic 10 Conference office announced the All-Tournament team honorees. Headlining the list was Temple's Millen as the most outstanding performer of the tournament. Joining Millen are teammates Bridget Setlles and Katie Briglia, Richmond's Chelsea Davies, Rebecca Barry, Catherine Ostoich and Straniero, Massachusetts' Lauren Allymohamed and Callie Swiegart, and La Salle's Heather Baretta and Rebecca Chylack.
