DAYTON, Ohio--Third-seeded Dayton scored four times in an 11-minute span to defeat No. 6 Charlotte 4-0 and advance to the semifinals of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship on a rainy Thursday night at UD's Baujan Field.

The Flyers (17-3-0) will face second-seeded Richmond in Friday's second semifinal at 7:30 p.m. at Baujan Field. That game will follow the first semifinal between top-seeded La Salle and No. 4 Massachusetts.

Dayton freshman Kelsey Smigel chipped a through ball from senior Emily Kenyon past Charlotte sophomore keeper Alex Kubrick in the 32nd minute to start the scoring. Three minutes later sophomore Juliana Libertin scored on a rebound following a header off the crossbar by junior Colleen Williams for a 2-0 Dayton lead.

Smigel scored her second goal of the game, again on a chip shot, following a pass from Williams in the 35th minute. Williams scored a goal of her own in the 43rd minute after a pass from senior Josie Grant.

The 49ers played tough defense in the second half, making five saves including a penalty kick stop by 49ers senior relief goalkeeper Natalie LaVigne. Charlotte kept the Flyers off the board in the second half, but were limited in offensive scoring opportunities with 13 shots, four of which were on goal.

Dayton had 22 shots, 12 on goal, but Charlotte held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. The 49ers totaled eight saves while Dayton sophomore keeper Jordin Melchert stopped three Charlotte shots.

The 49ers finish the season at 7-10-4 overall.
