Philadelphia, PA - Senior first baseman Dan Batz of Rhode Island has been named a third-team All-America selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association, it was announced on Wednesday.
Batz, who was named to the 2004 Louisville Slugger All-America second-team, presented by Collegiate Baseball, was drafted in the sixth round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Major League Baseball Draft. The Mohnton, PA native led URI in batting with a .406 average and ranked first in the A-10 in hits (76), doubles (24), total bases (138), on-base percentage (.507) and slugging percentage (.738). Batz set single-season school record in RBI, home runs, doubles, hits, and total bases in 2004 en route to being named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year.
"Dan Batz has been our best player on our team for the past three years and he's arguably the best player in the history of our program," said Rhode Island head coach Frank Leoni.
