WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its weekly honors in field hockey. The awards are for games played from October 12-18.

Offensive Player of the Week: Milou Kluyt (Sr., Goirle, The Netherlands), Saint Joseph’s
Defensive Player of the Week: Ana Afonso (Jr., Cordoba, Argentina), VCU
Rookie of the Week: Monica Piccioli (Fr., Louisville, Ky.), Saint Joseph’s

Milou Kluyt scored three goals and added an assist last week as the Hawks won both of their games.  On Friday, she turned in a five-point day with two goals and an assist as the Hawks routed Lock Haven, 11-0, in an A10 matchup. She then added a penalty stroke goal that gave the Hawks the lead in a 4-3 win over Villanova on Sunday.  The native of Goirle, Netherlands, leads the Hawks with seven goals and 18 points; she is tied for seventh and sixth in the Atlantic 10 in those categories, respectively, as well.

Ana Afonso scored the Rams' first goal as well as the game-winning goal in overtime as VCU came back to defeat Davidson. She scored on two of her three shot attempts to help VCU complete a comeback from down 3-1 with less than 17 minutes left to play in regulation. It marks the first A10 weekly award earned by Afonso this season. VCU's win helped the Rams get off to a 4-0 start in conference play with two games remaining, and the Rams host Saint Joseph's in a battle of unbeaten A10 teams this Friday at Cary Street Field.

Monica Piccioli collected five points for the Hawks this weekend, including three assists in the win over Lock Haven that moved the Hawks to 4-0 in A10 play.  She added a penalty stroke goal on Sunday that proved vital after Villanova scored late to cut the Hawks lead to one. Piccioli ranks third on the team in assists and sixth in points, while her seven assists are good for fifth in the conference.
