NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton senior Jonas Fjeldberg its Men's Soccer Player of the Week, while Fordham graduate-student Josh Levin was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Saint Joseph's freshman Nemo Philipp earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards, announced Monday and presented by Biosteel, are for games played Mar. 29 - Apr. 4.
Fjeldberg led the Flyers to first place in the Atlantic 10 with two goals and two assists in the 5-1 victory over Duquesne Saturday. The Jessheim, Norway native totaled six shots, all on goal, and now ranks in the top 10 in the league in goals and assists. The midfielder assisted on the game's opening goal by Jake Feiner, before finding the back of the net twice in an eight-minute span late in the second half.
Levine was once again a stable force for the Rams in goal, as the team remained unbeaten this season. The goalie from Rockville Centre, N.Y., posted one shutout and 12 saves as the Rams went 1-0-1. Levine made a season-high eight saves in a 2-0 shutout of La Salle on Tuesday, before tallying four stops in a 1-1 double-overtime draw with UMass on Saturday. He now ranks in the top 40 nationally in GAA (31st - 0.60), save percentage (17th - .871), saves per game (18th - 4.50), and shutouts (T39th - 3).
Philipp totaled five points on two goals and a helper in SJU's 2-0 week. In SJU's 2-1 road win over Rhode Island, the midfielder from Hamburg, Germany, earned the assist on the match-winner in the 90th minute. He then went on to score both goals in SJU's 2-1 road win over UMBC for his first collegiate goals.
