NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named VCU redshirt sophomore Ethan Manheim its Men's Soccer Player of the Week, while Fordham graduate-student earned his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Week nod. Massachusetts freshman Alec Hughes earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards, announced Monday and presented by Biosteel, are for games played Apr. 5-11.
Manheim scored the first two goals of his career last week as the Rams picked up a pair of A-10 wins. Against George Washington, the Chesterfield, Va., native scored the crucial equalizing goal in a game that VCU would go on to win 2-1 in overtime. The forward also scored the game-winning goal on the road at George Mason with less than eight minutes remaining in the match.
Levine recorded his fourth shutout in seven games this season on Saturday in a 2-0 win over Saint Joseph's. The goalie from Rockville Centre, N.Y., made three saves against the Hawks to keep the Rams unbeaten this spring and earn a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship and lowered his season GAA to 0.52. Levine currently ranks in the top 30 nationally in goals against average (10
th – 0.52), save percentage (6th - .882), saves per game (29
th – 4.29), and shutouts (T-26th - 4). His marks in GAA and save percentage both top the Atlantic 10.
Hughes scored his Atlantic 10 leading seventh goal to open up the scoring in an eventual 2-1 road win at La Salle on Saturday. The forward from Glastonbury, Conn., attempted three shots in the game with two on target, including a right-footed shot from a few yards out off a corner kick into the back of the net.
