NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Washington senior Oscar Haynes Brown and St. Bonaventure sophomore Luca Nicastro its Men's Soccer Co-Players of the Week. Colonials' sophomore Justin Grady was named Defensive Player of the Week, while GW's Tim Neumann earned Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Monday, are for games played Feb. 15-21.
Haynes Brown played the hero in GW's season-opening win over Mount St. Mary's, scoring the golden goal in double-overtime for a 1-0 victory. The forward from London, England, also tallied three shots in the contest.
Nicastro's overtime golden goal sent the Bonnies home winners last Friday over Gannon, 2-1. The Ottawa, Ontario, native gathered the ball at his feet after a Gannon turnover, made a move around the goalie and slotted home the goal for the win.
Grady posted a clean sheet in GW's 1-0 season-opening victory, including a stop just before the golden goal in the 102nd minute against Mount St. Mary's. The Wyncotte, Pa., product tallied three saves for a 1.000 save percentage in 102 minutes of play.
Neumann got the start in his collegiate debut against Mount St. Mary's and picked up an assist, setting up Oscar Haynes Brown's golden goal in double-overtime for a 1-0 victory. The newcomer from Daun, Germany, played 76 minutes in the GW midfield on the day and registered a shot.
