NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named La Salle juniors Omari Cotterell and Brett Warner its Men's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Saint Louis freshman Mason Leeth was named Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Tuesday, are for all games played through February 14.
Cotterell scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute of La Salle's 2-1 victory at Villanova on Saturday, completing a late come-from-behind surge for the Explorers. The Pickering, Ontario, foward registered a game-high five shots, including three on target. It was La Salle's first win over Villanova since 2001.
Werner helped lead La Salle to a 2-1 victory at Villanova on Saturday, its first win over the Wildcats since 2001. The keeper from Philadelphia made four saves and shut the 'Cats out in the second half as the Explorers came from behind to pick up the win, his sixth career win in net.
Leeth, a midfielder from Kansas City, scored a goal and added an assist on opening weekend for the Billikens. The rookie recorded his first collegiate goal in the season opener against Kansas City, then followed that up with the assist on Chase Niece's game-winning goal against McKendree. Leeth is currently tied for the most shots on the year (7).
