BROOKLYN, N.Y.- The 14th seeded Fordham Rams moved on to the second round of the 2020 Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship after beating 11th seeded George Washington 72-52 on Wednesday at the Barclays Center.
The Rams will play the sixth seeded Duquesne Dukes Thursday at 8:30 pm.
Fordham jumped to an early 11-6 lead, featuring six points from Joel Soriano. By the end of the first half, Fordham was nearly doubling the Colonials at a score of 32-17.
George Washington started the second half on an 8-4 run but Fordham did not allow their lead to shrink any further, trading baskets with the Colonials through the final minutes of the game. Fordham finished off the game by shooting well from the charity stipe, boosting their lead and punching their ticket to the next round of championship play.
Soriano finished the game with 14 points on 6-8 (.750) shooting and 12 rebounds, while Jalen Cobb tallied 15 points going 3-6 (.500) from beyond the arc and sinking all four of his foul shots.
Armel Potter carried the Colonials with a game-high 24 points on 9-14 (.643) shooting from the field, including 3-5 (.600) from three and making all three of his free throw attempts.
