NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton’s Jonas Fjeldberg, Kingsford Adjei and Toluwalase Oladeinbo, Fordham’s Joergen Oland, and Coach Gareth Elliott from Rhode Island earned the Atlantic 10 Conference’s top men’s soccer awards, which were announced Thursday ahead of the 2019 A-10 Championship Semifinals and Final.

Fjeldberg was named Offensive Player of the Year and Adjei was chosen as Midfielder of the Year. Oland repeated as A-10 Defensive Player of the Year while Oladeinbo was selected as Rookie of the Year. Elliott was named Coach of the Year. In addition to the major awards, the league also announced the All-Conference, All-Rookie and All-Academic Teams.

Fjeldberg led the Atlantic 10 with 11 goals, five of which were game-winners, and points with 31. He ranked second in assists with nine in leading the Flyers to a third-place finish. A junior from Jessheim, Norway, he was Men’s Soccer Player of the Week three times this season. He was also first in shot and first in shots on goal.

Adjei, a sophomore from Old Akrade, Ghana, finished second in the league in both goals and points, scoring 10 goals and 25 points. He had five assists on the season and two of his goals were game-winners. Adjei was second in total shots in the A-10.

Oland anchored a Fordham defense that allowed 1.144 goals per game.  A senior from Drammen, Norway, he was second at Fordham in goals (4) and points (9) and was accurate out of the back, scoring on 50 percent of his shots on goal. Oland was also a Hermann Award watch list selection this season.

Oladeinbo had eight goals and two assists for 18 points for the Flyers. He was third on the team in goals and points behind both Fjeldberg and Adjei. A three-time A-10 Rookie of the Week selection, Oladeinbo is a freshman from Lagos, Nigeria.

Elliott led Rhode Island, the defending A-10 Champion, to its first regular season title since 2014. The Rams were 7-1 in league play and are 13-3-2 overall and are currently ranked 23rd by College Soccer News.  A native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Elliott is in his seventh year leading his alma mater and the second time he’s been selected as A-10 Coach of the Year.

The 2019 Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Championship began last weekend with four quarterfinal matches at campus sites. Friday’s semifinals features top-seeded Rhode Island versus fifth-seeded Fordham at 1:00 pm and second-seeded VCU squaring off against third-seeded Dayton at 4:00 pm.
