NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton junior Jonas Fjeldberg was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week, while his freshman teammate Xavier Zengue was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week. Dayton freshman Toluwalase Oladeinbo was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week, also fo the second straight week. The awards were for games played Oct. 14-20.
Fjeldberg led the Flyers to a pair of wins last week over Oakland and A-10 leader Saint Louis by scoring two goals and recording two assists during that stretch. The Jessheim, Norway, native had a goal and an assist in each contest, totaling six points on the week. Fjeldberg finished the week with six shots, five on target, and scored the game-winner as Dayton upset Saint Louis on the road.
Zengue recorded an assist and helped the Flyers shutout Oakland before leading Dayton's defense to an upset over Saint Louis Saturday in a crucial A-10 game. The North, Oaks, Minn., product leads the Flyers in minutes played, anchoring the UD defense, which held the Billikens scoreless for 89 minutes.
Oladeinbo recorded a goal and two assists last week, leading the Flyers to a pair of wins. The Lagos, Nigeria, forward scored the game-winning goal and added an assist against Oakland Tuesday, then assisted the game-winning goal at Saint Louis Saturday. This is his third A-10 Rookie of the Week award this season.
